Jennifer Shirkey Elected Chair of Virginia State Bar Trusts & Estates Section

Jennifer leads the Trusts and Estates Section of the State Bar which is comprised of over 1,800 estate planning attorneys and which promotes the statewide exchange of ideas among estate planners.
Lenhart Pettit Continues Support of Virginia Food Banks
Lenhart Pettit is proud to continue its support of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, and in particular the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, by helping to “turn September orange” as part of Hunger Action Month. This spring, the Virginia Bar Association will once again promote hunger awareness and assistance through the statewide Legal Food Frenzy. This food and fund drive will celebrate its 10th year in 2016. Since this campaign began, the legal community has raised the equivalent of almost 12.8 million pounds of food to benefit the hungry throughout Virginia. During this year’s 9th Annual Legal Food Frenzy, Lenhart Pettit raised the equivalent of 18,912 pounds of food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and looks forward to bettering that number this coming year.
Patrick Asplin Honored by Darden Graduate School of Business Administration
Patrick Asplin has been awarded an honorary appointment as Visiting Executive Lecturer at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia for the 2015-2016 academic year. Patrick was also awarded this prestigious honor for the 2011-2012 academic year. In its appointment, Darden expressed its appreciation for Patrick’s contributions to its teaching program and thanked him for his commitment in helping create a highly engaging learning experience.

Richard Howard-Smith Completes 4th Edition of Choosing a Virginia Business Entity
Richard Howard-Smith recently completed editing the 2015 (4th) edition of Choosing a Virginia Business Entity, published by Virginia Continuing Legal Education Publications, a book he previously co-authored and has edited several times over the past decade. The book is intended primarily for lawyers and CPAs, and is a wide-ranging overview of the main purposes of business entities, the various types of business entities, the main features and differences of each types, and a thorough overview of the major income tax considerations and differences among the various business entities that can be employed in most business endeavors. Richard is a tax attorney with the firm, practicing primarily in the areas of estate planning and administration, business organizations and transactions, charitable planned giving, taxation, tax-exempt organizations, and general business work.
Lenhart Pettit raises 18,912 pounds of food during Legal Food Frenzy
The state-wide Legal Food Frenzy is an annual competition between law firms and legal organizations to raise funds and food for the Federation of Virginia Food Banks. During this year’s 9th Annual Legal Food Frenzy, Lenhart Pettit raised the equivalent of 18,912 pounds of food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which provides emergency food assistance to families in our local area. Andrew Baugher and Kelly LaPar coordinated Lenhart Pettit's participation in this year's Legal Food Frenzy.

Andrew S. Baugher was recognized by Blue Ridge Legal Services, Inc. (BRLS), last week for donating at least 25 hours of pro bono legal aid work in the past year.
